Caviar Celebrates 1 Year of Food Delivery in Philly
Unless you are a hardcore foodie, it may be hard to believe that the chic food delivery service Caviar is celebrating their 1 year anniversary of delivering some of Philly’s best dishes. Caviar’s origins stem back to 2012 when then founder Jason Wang and a few friends had a hankering from a specific spot across town called Ike’s Place. Problem was, Ike’s didn’t deliver and the trip across town and back would have taken a couple of hours. “He asked himself, why can’t the good restaurants deliver?” Wang, recalls. “Why is it the mediocre and generic pizza, Thai, Indian restaurants on every single delivery website?” With this thought, Caviar was born.
Fast forward 2 years and Philly residents began reaping the benefits of Wang’s simple idea. Since launching in Philadelphia last October, Caviar increased their monthly order volume by more than 5X and tripled the number of restaurants that they partner with. Caviar now delivers high-end food from over 100 of the city’s best spots!
So what exactly have Philadelphians been craving the most over the past year? Well according to Caviar’s marketing team:
- Dim Sum proved a popular pick for people in University City, Northern Liberties, and Old City— Most of these orders stemmed from awesome spots like Nom Wah Tea Parlor, Dim Sum Garden, Bing Bing Dim Sum, and more. .
- Sports bar favorites like wings, pizza, and chicken sandwiches were favored by several neighborhoods too, including Fishtown, Queen Village, East Passyunk, Rittenhouse Square, and North Philly, among others. Considering the city boasts a nationally-recognized contingency of die hard sports fans, these savory foods can be a convenient choice for those watching a big game at home
- Donuts were the top choice for residents of Point Breeze, while smoothies reigned supreme in The Loft District—showing that even nontraditional delivery foods whetted the appetites of some Philadelphians.
