Aqimero is Offering a Special Cocktail & Food Menu That Looks to Help Save the Bee Population

Chef and restaurateur Richard Sandoval of Aqimero (10 Ave Of The Arts.) is deepening his commitment to sustainability and environmental education through his annual initiative, Viva Abejas (Long Live the Bees), which is currently running now through April 22nd.

This initiative emphasizes the vital connection between food, the environment, and sustainability, while raising awareness for the importance of pollinators like bees.

“So many of our key ingredients—avocados, citrus, chilies, and even tequila—depend on pollinators,” said Chef Richard Sandoval. “Without bees, our food would look and taste very different.”

Viva Abejas not only highlights the role of bees in our food system but also fosters an early appreciation for these vital creatures, inspiring the next generation of environmental advocates. By educating children on the significance of bees, the initiative empowers them to become lifelong sustainability advocates and make meaningful changes in their communities.

Since its inception, Viva Abejas has expanded its educational reach through partnerships with organizations like Slow Food USA, while also establishing beehives across the U.S. and Mexico. These efforts contribute to restoring local bee populations, promoting biodiversity, and supporting sustainable food practices. A key element of the initiative is Chef Sandoval’s beekeeping efforts in Mérida, Mexico, where hives support sustainable, locally sourced ingredients. For example, the oranges used in Alma Finca Orange Liqueur are pollinated by bees from the very hives cultivated through the Viva Abejas program.

Chef Richard Sandoval invites you to support the preservation of vital pollinators by adopting a beehive through Free Range Beehive. Adopting a hive allows you to track its progress and see firsthand how your support is making a difference in the food system.

Additionally, proceeds from Viva Abejas and 100% of proceeds from Chef Sandoval’s book, Viva Abejas, benefit The World Bee Project, furthering its mission to protect and restore bee populations worldwide.
