ACANA Festival, The Largest African Music Festival on the East Coast is Back With Food, Vendors & Live Music
The ACANA Festival, the largest African music festival on the East Coast, is back as part of PECO’s Multicultural Series. This year, it will be held at a new location, Cherry Street Pier at Penn’s Landing (121 N. Columbus Blvd.), to celebrate all things African. The festival takes place on Sunday, August 4th, from 2 pm to 8 pm.
ACANA FEST 2024 will feature a diverse lineup of African music performances, ethnic food vendors, and unique crafts from various African vendors. Attendees can look forward to an immersive cultural experience with activities and entertainment for all ages.
This year’s music lineup includes chart-topping performances from two of Africa’s finest musicians: Awilo Longomba, a Congolese musician and a prominent figure in African music, particularly in the genres of soukous and ndombolo, and JZyNO, a rising Afrobeat artist known for his dynamic sound and infectious rhythms. Originating from Liberia, JZyNO has quickly gained popularity for his unique blend of traditional African music with contemporary Afrobeat influences. He is known for hits like “BUTTA MY BREAD,” “KUU KUU,” “Kpan Kpan Me,” and more.
Additionally, the festival will feature Tunde Success, a Nigerian master of the talking drum, Wazumbians, vibrant Ghanaian music group, and performances from top-notch local talent such as Sharon Katz & The Peace Train with their South African sounds, and the Universal African Dance &
Drum Ensemble, ensuring that the 16th edition of the ACANA FESTIVAL has something for everyone. This year’s festival will commemorate the life of Robert Dickson, co-founder and CEO of the Universal African Dance & Drum Ensemble, honoring his contributions to African arts and culture and our community.
“We are thrilled to host this year’s celebration of African culture at one of Philadelphia’s most lively and inclusive destinations on the Delaware Riverfront,” said Voffee Jabateh, CEO of ACANA. “It’s a unique opportunity to unite our community through music, art, and delicious cuisine.”.
