The Science History Institute is Hosting a Free Launch Party for Their Latest Exhibit That Explores the 150 Years of Dye Making
Ever wondered how some of your favorite clothes such as jeans, sweaters or accessories evolved into the fashion trends they are today? Well, the Science History Institute (315 Chestnut St.) wants to take you on a journey thought the 150 year history of synthetic dye making with their latest exhibit BOLD:Color from Test Tube to Textile.
To kick-off this latest exhibit The Science History Institute will be hosting a kick-off party with light refreshments on Friday September 22nd from 5 pm – 8 pm. The evening will feature a curator’s talk, fun fashion, hands-on crafts, pop-up displays, and more. Curator Elisabeth Berry Drago will answer your questions and share behind-the-scenes stories from the making of BOLD. The Institute will also be giving out limited edition BOLD Swag Bags to the first 150 visitors to arrive at the opening celebration! Limit one (1) denim BOLD Tote Bag per family.
So what does the BOLD exhibit entail? You’ll have the opportunity to see a wide-range of collections of sample books, as well as vivid clothing, unique tools and instruments as well as learn about the process of of dye making from the laboratory to the factory and eventually the runway. The exhibit will also highlight some of the key figures and pioneers that helped to make the fabrics and fashion items you’ve come to love.
Guests are encouraged to wear their most vibrant looks, and you can participate in a colorful costume contest with a chance to win a BOLD prize.
But how do you capture a rainbow? Through chemistry, we imitate the hues found in nature or innovate a spectrum of new shades.
