This February The African American Museum of Philadelphia Will Be Offering Free Screenings of “Harriet” & “13th”
The African American Museum of Philadelphia is ramping up its Black History Month programing which includes readings, live speakers, demonstrations as well as movies. As part of their movie programming, AAMP will be screening both Harriet and 13th.
Movie goers will be able to these films either in-person or remotely. In partnership with The School District of Philadelphia. both movie screenings are free and open to the public with suggested donations.
Zoom links for virtual programs will be emailed to attendees 30 minutes prior to, and at the start of each program. Be sure to check your spam and junk folders for this email. Harriet
February 5th | 5- 8 pm
AAMP invites on site and remote audiences to enjoy a free screening of the film “Harriet” (2h 5m), the extraordinary tale of Harriet Tubman’s escape from slavery and transformation into one of America’s greatest heroes, whose courage, ingenuity, and tenacity freed hundreds of enslaved people and changed the course of history.
Screening will be preceded by a brief presentation which will provide context for some of the histories depicted in the film.
13th
February 10th | 5-8 pm
In partnership with the School District of Philadelphia, AAMP invites on-site and remote audiences to enjoy a free screening of the film “13th” (1h 40m), the 2016 film by Ava DuVernay, which explores the history of racial inequality in the United States, focusing on the fact that the nation’s prisons are disproportionately filled with African-Americans.
