River Twice to Host Plates With Purpose Dinner Featuring Some of Philly’s Most Celebrated Chefs to Support Twist Out Cancer
River Twice, the celebrated East Passyunk restaurant run by husband-and-wife team Amanda Rucker and Chef Randy Rucker, will open its doors for a Plates With Purpose dinner benefiting Twist Out Cancer on Tuesday, September 22. Rather than a typical night of service, the evening will bring together several of Philadelphia’s most respected chefs for a communal-style, multi-course tasting menu built around connection as much as cuisine. The initiative is led by Twist Out Cancer’s Development Director, Kristina Burke.
Chef Randy Rucker of River Twice and Little Water will be joined at the pass by Chef Phila Lorn of Mawn and Sao, Chef Eric Leveillee of The DeBruce, Chef Frankie Ramirez of Amá, and Chef Alexandra Holt of Roxanne. Together, the five chefs will present a five-course dinner, with each course conceived, prepared and personally described by its chef, giving diners a glimpse into each cook’s individual style and story over the course of the meal.
Reservations are limited to just 24 seats per seating, given the intimate, family-style format of the evening, and are available now through Resy.
Twist Out Cancer is a nonprofit organization that provides psychosocial support to individuals and communities affected by cancer through creative arts programming. At the heart of the organization’s mission is a simple belief: no one should have to face cancer alone. Through art, storytelling and shared experience, Twist Out Cancer creates space for previvors, survivors, caregivers, loved ones and healthcare professionals to connect, process and heal together, outside the walls of a clinical setting
Plates With Purpose was created by Kristina Burke, who drew on her own history in Philly’s restaurant community, as well as her personal experience with cancer, to shape the initiative. Plates With Purpose brings chefs, restaurants and diners together around the table to raise both funds and awareness for Twist Out Cancer’s programs. The concept behind it is simple but powerful: food is community, and the act of gathering around a table can become its own form of connection and care.
Burke said the participating chefs are creating something that goes beyond an exceptional meal. She described the dinner as a table where generosity, hospitality and community come together in support of people touched by cancer, noting that when people gather around food, stories are shared, friendships begin, and hope grows.
