The Thanksgiving Play by Larissa FastHorse
The perfect Thanksgiving play put together by a group of clueless but well-meaning educators? The result is something which ends up portraying the same clichés associated with the holiday.
The Thanksgiving Play, by Larissa FastHorse, premiered on Broadway in 2023 at the Helen Hayes Theater. The production marked the first time that a female Native American playwright had a play produced on Broadway.
FastHorse wrote the play in response to the prevailing view that her plays were not producible because of the lack of Native American talent. The Thanksgiving Play treats issues such as underrepresentation of indigenous actors as well as shedding light on misguided attempts to represent Native Americans in American society without using any Native American actors.
“Very, very funny…this clever satire is something for which to be truly thankful.”
