20 Local & National Artists Will Take Part in Chinatown’s Celestial Beings Mural Festival
Far East Descendant in partnership with Maker’s Mark, Sherwin Williams, and Vurt Creative present “The Celestial Beast Mural Festival” taking place in Chinatown on August 21st. This project will feature 20 top mural artists from the area and across the country. The Lead Artist on the Project, Alloyius McIlwaine, has been tasked with finding the artists and working with them to make sure that the mural accurately represents Chinese culture and lore.
Regarding the project Alloyius stated. “Showcasing the beauty of different cultures has been my life’s mission for quite some time now. Well over a decade ago, I founded Cultures Clothing Company, and the goal of the company was to use art and fashion to show that all cultures have something beautiful or interesting about them. What I’m doing with the Celestial Beings Mural Festival is just an extension of that goal. After doing some research, we discovered that there were only a few murals in Chinatown that truly represented Asian culture, so we thought that the creation of this mural would be a wonderful way to showcase the beauty of the culture and bring everyone together.”
Far East Descendant, a new Cantonese restaurant in Chinatown opening this month, will provide the backdrop for the upcoming Mural Event. The Public is invited to come out on Saturday, August 21st at 1 pm to the Ez Park Lot at 13th and Vine Street. Guest are encouraged to bring chairs and camp out. Music will be provided by DJ Ronnie D. Complimentary Food will be available for the first 500 people who like and follow Far East Descendant’s social media. Guest will have to option to pick between a Fried Chicken Montao Sandwich or Vegan Lotus Patty Montao Sandwich and a side of Taro Fries and bottled water. Other beverages will be available for purchase from the restaurant. An official Chinese Dragon
and Lion Dance will also be performed during the festival.
