Venezuelan Restaurant Puyero is Celebrating WORLD AREPA DAY WITH NEW TASTY AREPA VARIETIES

Puyero Venezuelan Flavor (524 S. 4th Street) commemorates El Día Internacional De La Arepa (World Arepa Day) with an assortment of new Arepas available from September 7th to September 9th.

As Venezuela’s most popular dish, it is no surprise that Venezuelans have created a special day to honor the arepa, paying homage to the country’s rich culture and heritage.

“Arepas are the quintessential meal in Venezuela.” says co-owner Manuela Villasmil. “They unify all of Venezuela, no matter who you are or were you come from, everybody has an arepa at their table.” Fellow co-owner Gil Arends added, ” They are an important part of Venezuelan identity.”

At Puyero, the special menu of additions celebrates the explosion of flavors from these four new unique arepas. Manuela said, “We’re starting off with the Tropical which is stuffed with our pork shoulder and a homemade pineapple pico de gallo. We’re bringing back our spinach dough arepa, this time stuffing it with a greek salad, tzatziki and feta cheese to make La Griega. The De Carrito arepa, is our spin of popular late nighte food truck flavors. It can be filled with your choice of either grilled chicken or beef with pico de gallo, white cheese, ketchup and our homemade green mayo. The Pollo Frito is what the literal translation of its name means, an arepa stuffed with fried chicken, pickles and our homemade sriracha pink sauce. ”

The featured arepas showcase the different sides of Venezuelan lifestyle and identity, taking the many flavor profiles found in classic Venezuelan cuisine and adding a new twist.

Traditionally made with ground maize dough and often split in two to make sandwiches, Puyero is spicing up authentic arepas with unique and delicious ingredients and flavor combinations.

Owner Simon Arends said, “This special menu might be all gluten free but certainly not gluttony free. So give a shout to those gluten free friends of yours.”  Que empiece la gozadera!

The new arepas will be served at Puyero Venezuelan Flavor all weekend starting on Friday, September 7th through Sunday, September 9th, along with all regular menu items.
