Eight and Sand is coming to Philly! As we all know when it comes to beer Philadelphians take pride of the fact that the city is consistently present on the list of best beer towns in the U.S.  In fact, beer is included in the Philly holy trinity which include food, sports and brews.   With the amount of beer snobs in Philly, it’s not easy to break into the market.  However, New Jersey brewery Eight and Sand is looking to do just that.  Already a hit in Jersey, Eight and Sand is looking to become the beer of choice for Philadelphians to quench their thirst.

Based in Woodbury, NJ Eight and Sand Brewery has already made a big impact in the beer world.  In only its second year in businesses,  this place has already racked up some impressive accolades.  The list includes a GABF Silver Medal, USA Today’s Top 10 Best New Brewery, and being named one of the Top 8 Brewery in NJ.

So what’s up with the name?  Well the whole brand revolves around trains.  The phrase, “Eight and Sand,” was used to wish train crews a quick and safe journey. Eight comes from Notch-8 which is the quickest setting on certain trains and sand was spread on tracks to prevent slippage.

So What’s On Tap For Eight and Sand?

Co-owners Chris Mazzone and Chris Burke have been steadily spreading their beers throughout the Garden State. The appeal of their beer is not only the great taste but the fact that Eight an Sand beers are sessionable.  For those that don’t speak fluent Beernese, this  means it is lower in alcohol content, which adheres to classic styles.

We had to get the scoop on this emerging beer, so we headed out to Jersey and met with Chris Mazzone and he took us on a tour of Eight and Sand.  So if you want to know more about the hottest new brew hitting Philly bars, check out the video above!
