Saint Benjamin Brewing Company will debut Parkway Centennial Pale Ale

On Friday, September 8, pioneering craft brewery Saint Benjamin Brewing Company will debut Parkway Centennial Pale Ale in honor of the 100th anniversary of “Philadelphia’s Champs-Élysées,” the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Brewed in a very limited batch, Parkway Centennial Pale Ale will be released citywide at events up and down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, including Dino DraftsThe Academy Beer Garden at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University (1900 Benjamin Franklin Parkway). In addition, Parkway Centennial Pale Ale will be on draft at Saint Benjamin’s Taproom (1710 North 5th Street) in an ongoing and year-long celebration of the Taproom’s one-year anniversary in the underserved Kensington neighborhood.

Parkway Centennial Pale Ale is a pale ale brewed with Cascade hops in the kettle, then dry-hopped with Centennial hops. Pilsner malt gives it a light color and stages a simple backdrop for the hops; restraint in the kettle makes it flavorful but not too bitter, while dry hopping adds a pleasant kick of citrus. It marks the very first pale ale available for public consumption in Saint Benjamin’s beer portfolio and was brewed to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Friday, September 8 is the Parkway 100 We Are Connected Festival, presented by the Parkway Council and co-hosted by the district’s many cultural institutions. From 4 p.m. until 10 p.m., visitors will enjoy complimentary or “pay what you wish” access to six institutions, as well as entertainment and giant dot-to-dot puzzles illustrating the connectedness of the Parkway. Saint Benjamin’s Parkway Centennial Pale Ale will be available on draft at various Philadelphia area bars and restaurants throughout Parkway 100, a 14-month celebration dedicated to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

“From the moment that we chose our name, we knew that we wanted our brewery to be an indelible part of the history – and future – of Philadelphia,” says founder Tim Patton. “Joining our friends on the Parkway as they celebrate their milestone 100th anniversary was a no-brainer for us, and we’re proud to contribute this festive beer to the party.”

“We thought Saint Benjamin was the perfect brewery for a special Parkway 100 beer,” says Judi Rogers, Executive Director of the Parkway Council. “Both of our organizations have a strong connection to a certain Founding Father, who also happened to enjoy a home brew or two!”
