REX 1516 CELEBRATES 5th ANNIVERSARY WITH ANNUAL CRAWFISH BOIL AND SOUTHERN EXTRAVAGANZA

Rex 1516, Philadelphia’s destination for elevated Southern-inspired comfort food, is pleased to announce the return of their Annual Crawfish Boil from Thursday, May 4 to Saturday, May 6th, in celebration of their 5th anniversary!

In addition to their über-popular Crawfish Boil, the weekend will be chock-full of Southern-inspired programming, Kentucky Derby festivities, and a new menu launch.

Reservations are recommended as Executive Chef Justin Swain’s Crawfish Boil ($30), served with two pounds of fresh crawfish, andouille sausage, corn and red bliss potatoes, is highly sought after. The dish will be accompanied by buckets of four Narragansett Pounders for $10.

While guests enjoy the traditional Southern spread, local jazz musician, Adrian Hutson, will set the mood with live tunes between 6 and 9pm, Thursday through Saturday.

Saturday’s festivities will include a Kentucky Derby celebration with $10 Mint Juleps from Bar Manager, Lou DiNunzio, as well as a live broadcast of the race – the only sporting event the South Street restaurant and bar airs all year.

New menu highlights include a Gumbo Rice Bowl ($10), served with mussels, shrimp, Carolina gold rice, and toasted benne furikake; Honey Mustard Glazed Berkshire Ham ($24), honey mustard glazed and house-cured ham, succotash with onions, corn and fresh fava beans, Carolina Gold rice cakes, smoked chicken jus; Pan-Fried Cornmeal Catfish ($23), a cornmeal dredged catfish, black eyed pea, herb and pepper salad, fava bean puree, crispy collard greens and house-made hot sauce.
