The Restaurant South is Featuring Live Jazz Almost Every Night This Summer! See the Line-up!

Throughout the summer, restaurateur Robert Bynum will host Philadelphia’s best and most exciting line-up of contemporary jazz performances at SOUTH. A proud curator of the city’s long history of live music, Bynum has single-handedly evolved the jazz scene since the debut of his newest venue on North Broad Street late last year, and oversees the ever-expanding line-up of performances, held six nights a week:

Wednesday, 6/22: What’s Happening Wednesdays with Jason Moran & the Bandwagon

Blue Note Records’ jazz pianist Jason Moran, along with bassist Tarus Mateen and drummer Nasheet Waits, has been called “the future of jazz” – find out why, live

Thursday, 6/23: Gerald Veasley’s Unscripted Jazz Series with The Baylor Project feat. Jean Baylor and Marcus Baylor

Dynamic husband-and-wife duo Marcus and Jean Baylor pay homage to their wide-ranging influences, generating an eclectic sound that is spiritual, buoyant, soulful and melodic

 

Friday, 6/24Saturday, 6/25: Lynn Riley & The World Mix

Musician, composer and educator Lynn Riley gets back to her roots – she was raised outside of Philadelphia – as the leader of her own jazz group, The World Mix

Sunday, 6/26: Joseph Block Quartet

The 2016 winner of the J. Douglas White Essentially Ellington student composition contest at Manhattan’s Lincoln Center, Block is a dynamic and exciting up-and-coming musician

Wednesday, 6/29: What’s Happening Wednesdays with Nicolas Payton

A virtuoso who began his professional career at just 10 years old, Payton is the founder of the Television Studio Orchestra and BMF Records

Thursday, 6/30: Gerald Veasley’s Unscripted Jazz Series with Nnenna Freelon

Six-time GRAMMY nominee Nnenna Freelon is a captivating live performer, and her theatrical production “The Clothesline Muse” has made national headlines

Friday, 7/1 and Sunday, 7/3: Webb T.’s Fleet feat. Tanqueray Hayward

Musical troupe Webb T.’s Fleet will be joined by Philadelphia vocalist Tanqueray Hayward for these bold, confident performances marked by rhythmic ease and skill

Saturday, 7/2: Tim Warfield feat. George Burton, Romare Mendez & Wayne Smith Jr.

Veteran stage performer Tim Warfield has also appeared on the Today Show, You Bet Your Life, and Ted Turner’s 19pet Awards, and brings his jazz sax to SOUTH with special guests

Lindsey Webster has drawn comparisons to Sade, Mariah Carey and Anita Baker with her soulful R&B sound on her successful albums “Lindsey Webster” and “You Change”

Friday, 7/8Saturday 7/9: The Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble Tribute to Miles Davis & Chet Baker

This adventurous jazz outfit has been playing around Philadelphia since 1979, and brings a variety of acoustic and electric jazz styles to the stage in these tribute sets
