9 Reasons Why It’s Okay to Be Single for the Holidays
So the holidays are upon us. Although just about every ad, commercial, and romantic comedy suggests that being alone during the holidays sucks, we feel the opposite. Truth is that it’s actually the best time to be single for a variety of reasons. Sure we’re in the heart of cuffing season but trust me, it’s not the end of the world. For those that remain un-cuffed, we put together a list of 9 reasons why it’s okay to be single for the holidays. Check it out.
Focus More on Family
Hey lots of times people get so wrapped up in their relationship that family time suffers. Single for the holidays means more opportunity to spend time with the family and take the opportunity to reach out to those cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family you haven’t talked to in a minute. Instead of a Merry Christmas or Happy New Years text, give em’ a call and reconnect. Go into the new year with good family ties.
Work On Yourself
This is the time of year where everyone starts to make their resolutions. Well instead of just telling everyone, write them down. This is a great opportunity to focus on yourself. If you want to eat better, hit the grocery store instead of the drive thru. Oh, you want more more money this year? Set up automatic deductions from your check to go into a savings account. Point being there is nothing or no one to distract you. Be the person you want to date. At the end of the day don’t be a guy/girl that needs a significant other. Be the guy/girl that a significant other needs.
No Awkward Time With S/O’s Family
It may be tough enough to get along with your own family for the holidays. We can only imagine being in a situation where you totally feel out of place hanging with a significant other’s family. Avoid those awkward moments such as, “So how did you guys meet?” “Don’t break my nieces heart or we gonna’ have problems” “So when are you guys gonna have kids?” Besides your family does enough interrogating.
Date Yourself/Treat Yourself
Before you can be in a relationship with anyone else, you gotta’ love yourself first and be your own best company. Take this time to get to know yourself more. Take yourself to dinner. Hit the movies solo. Even make a spa day for yourself. The more time you go out and do things solo, the more you know what you need in a person. So be happy, free, and single this holiday season knowing your committed to the best person on earth.
You Can Do All The “Couple-ly” Things Without Commitment
Okay so you’re actually looking to date during the holidays but not looking for anything too serious. You can still enjoy all the cute couple stuff such as the ice skating, plays, light shows etc. and do it all with different dates. Hop on tinder, work those DMs, approach a cute guy or girl. Get your date on. The holidays are the best times to do the whole dating thing (if you’re ready). There’s plenty to do and the city is scenic.
You Don’t Have to Worry About Being “Fake Excited” For Gifts
“Oh damn! Thanks babe for this corduroy pajama onesie! You know me so well!” Meanwhile you want to slit your wrist the long way. Forget these scenarios. Yea, Yea we always say, “it’s the thought that counts.” True, but they had 364 days to put actual thought into the gift. Being single means not having to worry about this scenario. Besides that corduroy onesie is probably hard to sleep in anyway.
Celebrate Your Friends
You worked hard all year while on “the grind.” These days between jobs and adulting, you may not have had time to hang with your friends. Perfect time to throw a game night at the house or hit the town with the rest of your single friends. If you want to take it a step further create a Pollyanna with your friends with gag gifts only. Besides being single for the holidays is the perfect time to let your inner child out and have a little fun.
This is simple. You don’t have to buy presents. More money for you. Cha-ching!
You’re Free for a New Years Hook Up
Ring in the new year with a new kiss from a new flame. Maybe it’s someone you had you’re eye on for a while. Maybe suck face with a complete stranger at the NYE party. Whatever the case may be, you’re free to do whatever you want. So go ahead and be a little devilish, then spend the rest of the year being a saint.
