Valentine’s Week Ideas in Philadelphia 2018
Valentine’s Day comes once a year. Only one day out of the whole year is it socially acceptable to buy flowers and heart shaped boxes of chocolate for the person you eh- kind of probably don’t see a future with, but brings you hot soup when you’re sick so you keep them around. Kidding. However, I am not kidding about the fact that Valentine’s day rolls around one minuscule time out of the whole year. So if you can’t make time (or can but still want some ideas!) to woo your significant other on the 14th, here are five neat activities you can partake in throughout Valentine’s week in Philadelphia.
Philly Theatre Week (The 12th)
You enjoy watching talented people put on their best work in an artistic manner? Cool, then you’ll dig Philly Theatre Week. Theatre Philadelphia will be debuting a 10-day celebration to acknowledge the tri-state’s lively and diverse thespians in efforts to support the arts and make theatre accessible to the public. With 70 organizations, 80 events, and 268 performances, you are bound to find a show you kids will love. Performances, workshops, and panels will take place throughout February 8th to the 18th in Philadelphia and suburbs, New Jersey, and Delaware. A variety of shows and ticket prices are available. There is no better way to kick off the romantic week than with a show that you will both adore, so go plan that date. Philly Theatre Week tickets are officially on sale now at www.phillytheatreweek.org.
The Franklin Institute Night Skies at the Observatory (The 13th)
Nothing says “I forgot to make a reservation” quite like gazing at the stars together for the entirety of your Valentine’s date. Fortunately, you can feel fully secure in your date-reservation-making abilities while also stargazing at The Franklin Institute Night Skies event on February 13th. This monthly event focuses on your connection to the celestial world that the night sky illuminates. There are planetarium shows, a live presentation on astronomy, and a variety of space-related activities offered on this exciting evening. I have to say that “Ben’s Starlight Lounge” on the rooftop observation deck (which features a cash bar!!) will most likely be the highlight of your night. Tipsily observe various stars and planets through the telescopes provided on the rooftop deck, and take in the view of your beautiful date. Tickets are available on The Franklin Institute’s website for $10.
The Cambridge (The 14th)
If you want that traditional wine and dine experience in soft lighting, look no further than The Cambridge. Located at 1508 South Street, I expected a trendy restaurant flooded with young couples, and this place did not surprise. The bar tucked off to the side is an excellent place to get your evening started as they have an extensive selection of wine, beer, and cocktails to keep you quenched. This place offers a variety of tunes that make you want to say “I haven’t heard this song in forever”, and I am a big fan of their throwback style. This warm tavern serves traditional American cuisine and has some decent options for vegetarians. They will be offering a three course fixed menu on this evening as well as some speciality drinks. So, if you’re looking for a candlelit place with adequately sized portions and no string quartet, then I highly recommend this spot for your casual-classy evening.
Tyler, the Creator and Vince Staples at the Liacouras Center (The 15th)
Concerts are all about company you’re in, so what could be better than bringing your significant other to bop? Jam out with your honey to Tyler, the Creator’s headlining tour. This show will include performances by Vince Staples and Taco. Coming to the Liacouras Center on the 15th, you won’t want to miss out on this amazing experience. Tickets are available now.
Chinese New Year (The 16th)
If you want to keep it real low key in a pretty high key way- make your way to Chinatown on the 16th to ring in the Chinese New Year. A variety of activities and events will be going on this evening such as live music and dumpling making. So bring your sweetheart down for a stroll through the culturally rich area to catch the excitement and kick off the Year of the Dog.
