5 Places in Philly to Party the The Right Way for Mardi Gras

If traveling to the Bayou State is not in the cards this coming Fat Tuesday, Philadelphia has gotcha’ covered.  Okay, so it doesn’t get as crazy the beads and the hoo has out but you can thank the good folks back during the 2001 Mardi Gras riots for that one.  South Street has never been the same since.   However, if you are looking for some fun times to dance and celebrate Mardi Gras in Philly (including South Street), here’s a nice short list.  From parades to science demonstrations and of course live music, here’s our top picks.

Science After Hours: Mardi Gras

The Franklin Institute

Go big for Fat Tuesday and join us for a scientifically sinful celebration of the senses.  For a night of indulgences, the museum will be filled with music and revelry.
Enjoy the music from New Sound Brass Band as they perform live in The Fels Planetarium. Philadelphia based brass band that offers a fresh and soulful twist on various styles of music. This multi-cultural unit draws influence and inspiration from its vast and diverse background to produce a sound that has been described as Philly Soul spoken through brass.

We are the WILD BOHEMIANS!!! Up goes the cry at a tradition that has brought the sounds, dance, and raucous joy of Mardi Gras to Philadelphia since 1984. The band’s repertoire consists of any and all music from Louisiana, including Cajun, Zydeco, Dixieland, Mardi Gras Street Music, Jazz, R&B, and a specialty the Bohemians called Swamp Stomp. The band also shows a penchant for silliness, wearing wild costumes, telling strange tales, making weird noises, and playing novelty songs that strike their fancy.
