In case you haven’t noticed, winter is here.  It’s the time to hibernate, Netflix & Chill and for the gym rats it means bulking season. Whatever you use these blistery cold months for, you can’t go wrong with warming up to a tasty bowl of soup.  Philly being the food town that it is has some of the best options when it comes to soup. You may or may not have seen our Top 10 Pho Spots in Philly, but we decided to give other soup places some love.  So if you’re in the mood for Matzo Ball, Won Ton or classic Tomato Soup you can’t go wrong with our selection of 10 of the best places to get soup in Philadelphia. What better place to enjoy classic soups such as Matzo Ball, Chicken Noodle, Split Pea or Vegetable than a diner that embodies the classic diner deli atmosphere.  It’s almost like stepping back in time entering this joint.  The soup variety is great and the yumminess factor is amazing.  Perfect spot to pair a sandwich with your soup as well.

This South Philly gem makes our list of the best places to get soup in Philly for their Mustard Soup alone. Yes, you heard that right, Mustard Soup.  Comprising of caviar, tarragon oil, rye croutons and a scallop it’s the stuff of legends.  Other soups you can find here include Sunchoke Bisque and Flemish Farmer Soup. If you ever had the soup here you’ll know why it made the list.

This Japanese soup spot serves up some of the best soup you will ever have. Like ever.  Their broth process alone is mind boggling as their website states, “The broth is simmered for a period of 2 days. Due to the extensive cooking period, our broth has a deep, well developed flavor that can only be described by experiencing it.”  Do you really need more of a reason to try this spot? Yea we didn’t think so.

Specializing in American comfort food, Jones makes our list of the best places to get soup in Philadelphia for the good ol’ American Tomato soup.  Although other great choices are available, what better way to warm up this winter than with a tasty Tomato soup and a nice sandwich.  Talk about comfort food, you may never want to leave this joint.

Hand made and made to order. You get to choose whether your noodles are thick or thin or broad or narrow and pretty much everything that goes into it.  Essentially it’s like building your own soup. The Nan Zhou noodle has over 160 years of history, so year this is some serious soup making.  So if you’re ever in Chinatown and in the mood for some extra special soup, this is a must try.

Top notch when it comes to making soup that’s all we can say. Situated in Fishtown this spot is the g0-to-spot for the classic half sandwich/soup combos.  The soups here are perfectly seasoned from the Chicken Chilli to Potato Leek to the classic Tomato Soup and other great options.  You can’t go wrong here.

 

Cheu Noodle Bar

Miso Ramen, Brisket Ramen, Coconut Curry Noodles and Fried Chicken Tan Tan are just a few of the many unique and delicious bowls you can find at this joint.  Located in Center City it’s the perfect spot of lunch if you’re working or running around town.  Dubbing itself Asian Fusion, it’s obviously not your typical Asian noodle house which makes these soups stand out.

Staying in Center City, this Jewish Deli not only serves up some of the best sandwiches in town but the soups here are damn good.  Among their homemade soup selection you can warm-up to Chicken Noodle, Matzo Ball, Split Pea, Sherri’s Beef Kreplach and several others.  If you’re looking to dine-in this spot has the classic down home diner feel in the middle of bustling Philly.

 

 Din Sum Garden

The self proclaimed “Philadelphia’s Premier Authentic Shanghai Soup Dumplings,”  serves up some of the best  din sum you will ever have but the hidden gem are the soups.  The Shanghai Won Ton is highly recommended.  Other must-try options include the Curry Beef, Chilli Cabage and the Hot & Sour Soup.  Hot, fresh and delicious is the best way to describe the experience here.
